The WB0CMT 2m Yagi

I was looking for a simple low cost 2m 3 element Yagi design.  While there are many out there, Nathan Loucks, WB0CMT, design which was published in QST April 1993, pages. 54-55 seemed to me to be the easiest and most affordable option. The original design calls for the use of brazing rods, which are secured by using expoxy.  I decided to use 5mm threaded rods as this allows for the elements to be mechanically secured using suitable washers and nuts.

In the photo above the feed line is connected to the two rods which make up the driven element. Notice that the sections of rod are slightly separated. This arrangement functions as the matching device bringing the overall impedance down from about 70ohm to the desired 50ohm.. The two 4mm machine screws for securing the boom sections to the T-piece are also visible.

The completed 3 element beam. The feed line must still be secured to the boom with a cable tie or or insulation tape. The PVC box and the UHF Panel socket are not shown here.  These with a short piece of co-ax will form an easy feed line connection point. Keep the feed line as short as possible, circa 5m will do fine. If the antenna will be mounted a greater distance from the transceiver, then RG8 is recommended to reduce losses.
